Off Trail Days 1-7

I ended up off trail for a week throwing around different ideas with different people. I had planned on getting off and enjoying some desert sunshine, heading to the Grand Canyon and maybe Utah. Staying active, hiking in my favorite snowless wonderlands. I also considered Big Sur and/or The Lost Coast Trail. I even considered getting back on the PCT and redoing a part of the desert. Any and all of these sounded amazing, but they didn’t get me any closer to Canada, and they all meant I’d be throwing away weeks of this short time I have to complete 2650 miles. 

Decisions, decisions… In the meantime I decided to relax a little while I was at home. I spent plenty of time in the hot tub, showing off my sweet shorts tan of course. 

To stay in shape I biked about 20 miles on my beach cruiser and walked on the beach, still not a runner no matter what shape I’m in. 

My favorite thing I did was to go visit my brother and his family. I can’t believe how much my nephew is talking in the short time since I’ve been gone! 

While my niece and I colored, she told me when we go hiking she’d carry the food and the tent! Best hiking partner ever already! 

I caught my parents for about an hour after they got home from the airport. A quick hello and off to bed before I headed to the airport myself in the morning. 

So what did I finally decide? Where am I taking all of you next? The snowy Northern California section. With the storms continuing to dump snow everywhere, this white stuff isn’t going to look any different in a few weeks. It’s get out there, or get off the trail time it seems, so I’m getting out there. I have some snow anxiety, but I’m going out there with snowshoes this time, so hopefully that makes all the difference. 

Sitting in Truckee, CA as ready as I’ll ever be to take on my first stormy day of Nor Cal tomorrow! I’m headed right into a week of snow and freezing temps. Here we gooooo!
