Days 130-132-Guess I’m Coming Back For Goat Rocks

Day 130: mile 2274-2295.4 (White Pass)

Day 131: Zero White Pass

Day 132: mile 2295.4-2311.4

I considered waiting out the storm so I didn’t miss the remaining miles into White Pass, but unfortunately I didn’t have the extra food to hold out another day since this stretch had taken me so long already. Off into the clouds I went.

I climbed up and onto the ridge line where the clouds became a white wall keeping me from the beauty I knew was out there.

Despite my lack of views, the day was still unbelievable. The Knifes Edge dropped off on both sides of me, and because I couldn’t see below I imagined it just went off into nothingness for miles. In my mind that added a little danger and excitement to my viewless day.

The wind on the ridge blasted me for miles, and there was so much moisture in the air it formed water droplets on my eyelashes.

I began my descent and the clouds cleared a bit as I made my way into White Pass. What a tease!

I knew I’d miss my opportunity for hot food with the store closing before I could get there, but I wanted to make it tonight anyway. Waking up to flushing toilets was motivation enough, but the promise of a schmancy hot espresso drink really sold it. I made it just in time to set up before it got dark.

Day 131

What an awesome surprise, Dad Jokes, Madelyn, and Joe were all in the store when I walked in! I figured I’d lost them after that stormy day. We chatted for a bit about the days since I’d seen them before they all headed out.

Dad Jokes and I had different ideas for breakfast… (the pie and beer are both his)

I proceeded to spend the rest of my day relaxing in the store getting my resupply together and eating my giant pizza. It really did take all day, and I didn’t even finish it.

So much bigger and thicker than it looks. The downside to not eating cheese, no one wants to share a pizza with you, and you can’t just order a slice!

Day 132

Feeling lucky the bear who wondered into camp didn’t get into my food, I finally headed out around 11. I couldn’t take listening to the new hikers arriving talk about how amazing Goat Rocks was any longer. Nope, not bitter at all. I’ll be back to see it next year!

Most of my day was spent in the trees, but I did pop out a few times for some great views.

I found a spot right off the trail where I parked it for the night. This area is busy with weekenders and section hikers, so I feel lucky to have this space all to myself!

Home!

Goodnight!
