Day 96: mile 1750.4-1773.5
I used a flushing toilet, charged my phone, and took a shower this morning! Best campground yet. The water in the bathroom was even hot enough to “cook” my oats just a bit. Living large out here people!
I said a slow goodbye to the campground and started moving around 10 am. Super fun way to start the day, a 6+ mile uphill stretch. Woohoo! It was gradual, but I was moving a little slow, so it felt so long. I did pass another aqueduct, this one was just a bit smaller than the last. 😂
Once I reached the flat portion of my day I got this super eerie feeling. I felt like someone or something was watching me. As I looked out into the silence, I saw something moving through the trees, AHHHH Big Foot! JK I didn’t see anything, but it was a weird feeling.
What makes a weird feeling go away quickly, Trail Magic! No way! There hasn’t been much since I flipped up. So excited, I headed over to say hello and grab a beer. Two other hikers who just started in Ashland were already there. Rich, the trail angel and I sat and talked for at least an hour, great guy! I could’ve chatted with him all afternoon, but I still had 12 miles to do and it was 3:30.
I headed off and into an endless boulder field. At first it was such a cool change of scenery, but then I thought, really, when is this going to end? The trail looks easy enough to walk on, but my feet didn’t think so.
I made it to my campsite where the mosquitoes had been waiting for me, thirsty as ever. As soon as I crossed the highway it was like the flood gates opened. I was wondering when they’d be back, yay. 🙄 I quickly put my mosquito gear on (wind jacket, pants, and bug net) and put up my tent to get away from them. What a waste of a great campsite. Damn them all! At least I can still listen to the creek, they can’t take that away! 😂
Goodnight!
