Day 92, 93, & 94-Fourth of July Shenanigans In Ashland

Day 92:mile 1708.2-1717.7 (Ashland, 4th of July)

Day 93 Zero

Day 94: mile 1717.7-1728.4

Day 92-After my 10 mile hike into Callahan’s Lodge (just outside of Ashland, OR) I sat on the patio and drank a beer. It was wonderful, and to make it even better it was free. The first beer is on the house for thru hikers. I ordered a second and relaxed in the sunshine. I recognized the family that sat next to me from the trail. They were out for a day hike when I was on my way down. We chatted for a bit and they offered me a ride to Ashland and bought my second beer, so nice of them!

They dropped me off in the middle of town where the 4th of July festivities were in full swing, gave me a few ideas for food, and mentioned one thing that was a must do. I had to take a drink from the fountain for good luck. I was warned it would be funky and it was. 😂 It smelled like sulfur and tasted like minerals and maybe a touch of metal.

I walked the streets taking everything in. This was the biggest town and the most people I’ve been around in quite a while. I have to say it was pretty nice. Time to socialize with some strangers! 😂 I might like to hike alone, but company in town is always welcome.

I walked into a brewery and restaurant to grab a bite, and ended up striking up a conversation that led me to a shower and a place to stay. Amazing how these things just happen. I knew there was a reason I had a good feeling about this place.

Good beer and good food if you’re ever in Ashland

My new found friends were busy until later that night, so I went to meet up with Farmers Market, Tropicana, Joe Dirt, and a few girls we’d just met (one from the trail crew last night!). Long story short, we had a blast and I stayed out too late. My visit to Ashland was just the mischief I was was in the mood for. 😂

Day 93-As to be expected, I wound up with a hangover the next day. Definite zero. I was productive at least, laundry and the grocery store happened before I made my way back to Callahan’s Lodge to sleep on the back lawn. The grass was glorious!

Day 94-Today I woke up feeling much more rested and ready to return to the trail. That said, I still sat around the Lodge enjoying the amenities until after noon. I walked the mile and a half on the highway to get back to the trail, and then only 9 or so more to my campsite and called it an early day. Tomorrow I’ll kill some miles.

Goodnight!

XOXO Becks
