Day 91: mile 1685.3-1708.2
I woke up so excited to finally cross the border I practically ran there! Along the way I came across a hiker going southbound and enthusiastically welcomed him back to California. Noticing he didn’t share my enthusiasm, and was far too clean, I realized he was probably just out for a few days and very confused by my comment. I laughed at myself and continued on my merry little way.
I got to the border and let out a celebratory yell when saw Joe Dirt. He Kindly snapped a few photos for me, and I signed the logbook. This felt like the biggest milestone in a while. See ya later California! …really, I’ll see you later, like in a few months. Hopefully the snow in the Sierra melts by then! Think snowless thoughts for me.
Speaking of, I hit a few patches of snow. Nothing too difficult. During one of the patches I met a woman who was doing 50 miles of the PCT for her 50th birthday! …or was it 60 for her 60th? Either way I thought it was a pretty cool idea!
The rest of the day was filled with gorgeous views. Oregon was impressing me so far!
I discovered a bit of trail magic just before the end of the day. It was a cooler full of sodas. I didn’t take one (no soda for this girl), but it was still really nice to see a little trail magic again!
The four of us (Joe Dirt, Tropicana, Farmers Market, and myself) all decided to stay at the shelter just outside of Ashland, our next stop. It had all the amenities (pit toilet and picnic tables), plus an awesome fire pit, and would make a short walk to town tomorrow. I took no photos, so you’ll have to take my word that it was a cool little spot.
It was cold and windy, so I got set up and climbed inside my tent. I was definitely a bit jealous of the trail crew who was staying there. They had fresh salad, some hot raviolis, and beer. Yum. Oh well, I can have whatever I want tomorrow in town, yesss!!
Goodnight!
