Day 9-That Mary, She’s One Cool Lady!

Day 9: mile 122.7-145.4

Up and at ‘em and feeling fabulous! I got about 10 hours of sleep, and I was ready to take on the world! …or at least the next 23 miles of the PCT.

My day started in the clouds. It was a totally different feeling to the trail and I loved it.

The day was also very cold and windy. I was happy I traded out my ankle-high gaiters for my sturdier knee-high gaiters. They gave me some warmth and wind block. I used my rain kilt to block the rest of my legs, but was already thinking about how happy I was to let my Mom talk me into sending my pants to my next resupply. Thanks Mom!

I came upon Mike’s Place and had to take a pass. I was a woman on a mission and had no time for distractions. Mike’s Place is a hiker hangout, where they usually serve pizza (that would’ve been awesome at that point), and I bet they would’ve had a nice warm place to sit and enjoy being out of the cold and wind for far too long.

My reward for being so responsible came just around the corner where I found some Trail Magic! The cooler was full of oranges, yum! Thanks Trail Angels!

About halfway through the day a bit of blue sky popped out . When the clouds cleared just enough the views were even better than what I had imagined was out there.

What a day it had been already, but I had quite a few miles to get in before I made it to Mary’s Water Tank. Thank goodness for the great views, because the end of the day was all uphill. The wind was still blasting me at certain turns, and I had to push myself through the last 3 miles, but I made it!

I don’t know much about Mary, other than she is one cool lady! She has a 500 gallon water tank she fills herself, an outhouse, an outdoor shower, and a library with picnic benches, all for us hikers! Pretty awesome and super generous if you ask me.

Proud of myself and exhausted from the day I crawled into my tent to call it a night. I can tell it’s going to be a windy one, but I’m sure I’ll have no trouble sleeping tonight.

Goodnight!

XOXO Becks
