Day 89: mile 1655.9-1660.5
What a relaxing day! …well minus the hiking portion 😂, but the rest of it, ahhhh so good. I woke up and headed over to the cafe for breakfast with a few other hikers. Seiad Valley is known for a pancake challenge, but no one gave it a shot. Judging by the size of the regular serving it was probably a good call. I think it’s something crazy like 5 pounds of pancakes.Â
We headed back to the RV Park next door (Seiad Valley is all of one street with a few businesses) and resumed our positions laying in the grass until lunch. Eat, lay around, repeat. This is the life! 😂
It was pretty hot, so no one felt especially motivated to begin the climb in the heat of the day. Myself, Joe Dirt, Farmers Market, and Tropicana all decided we’d head out once it cooled down a bit. Our sign to leave came via some trail magic. As we were all discussing enjoying a beer before we left, and possibly packing a few out for our short hike, a very generous man walked over with a 12 pack for whoever had hiked the most miles so far (that was me by a few miles)! Sharing is caring, so we divvied up the beers and headed out.Â
Even though it was approaching evening, and we were partially shaded from the hot sun, it was a sweat-fest! There was mention of more poison oak, so I was again forced to hike in my pants, it was suffocating. We hiked 5 miles straight up, completing half the 5,000 foot climb, leaving the rest for tomorrow. Â
We all squeezed our tents into the small site and cracked our beers. We also had to take our twin photo. This brother and sister duo clearly have some good taste! 😉
The four of us made a plan for where to camp tomorrow night and headed to sleep. It felt really motivating to have a goal and some new friends to look forward to seeing at the end of the day. A much needed boost! Let’s see if I can get myself out of camp at a decent time to beat the heat to the top of this climb.Â
Goodnight!
XOXO Becks
So, what’s your nickname?
My trail name is Green Light. 🙂
Haha! Too funny and randomly about the matching clothes with them both!
