Day 83: mile 1564.9-1586.1
I think I got about 9 hours of much needed sleep. Funny enough I had a dream that I went home for a quick zero. šI wish I couldāve slept in my bed for 9 glorious hours, but my tent did the trick.
I hit snow about 4 miles in, and I was looking forward to it. Iād heard this stretch if snow was a little ātrickyā and ātechnical ā, and I was in the mood for a challenge. Well, the snow must be melting too fast for info a few days old because it was neither. A little bummed, I breezed through what was left of the snow, and was on dirt the rest of the day.
This whole section from Mt Shasta/Dunsmuir the trail has been right on the side of the mountain, and today was no different. I could see for miles, this is my kind of hiking. š
I hit a midday slump 11.5 miles in and I sat there searching for a reason. Why did this keep happening lately? Was I bored? I think the answer is yes. Not with my surroundings or the hike, with my own thoughts! šIn two days Iāll have been out here for 3 months hiking solo. Even when I had hiking partners, we usually just met at the end of the day, still hiking alone the rest of the day. All Iāve done is listen to myself think. Perhaps itās time for a little distraction. Ahhhh music, you always seems to be the answer.
I put on some random tunes I had downloaded from years ago and that did the trick. I was jammin up and down the mountain feeling super energized. The pep in my step that Iāve been missing was back. Thank goodness because there was a lot of up and down at the end of the day!
I made it to camp and found a few other hikers already set up. I said hello and set up as well. Back up at 7,000 feet and I can feel the temperature change. …my dinner can too, it took much longer to rehydrate than it has been. It must be time for bed, one of the guys across from me is snoring like crazy already. In go the earplugs! š
Into Etna, CA tomorrow for a resupply, relax, and to download a bunch of music!
Goodnight!
