Day 82: mile 1551.8-1564.9
You know those days where the first thing you think about when you wake up is how much you can’t wait to go back to sleep? That was today. If you could call in sick to the trail, I would’ve. I slept terribly. My feet and hips ached all night. Everyday since …before Burney I believe, the balls of my feet have been killing me by the end of the day. Normally I wake up and they feel okay again, but not today. Today my right foot was still throbbing.
Unfortunately those miles weren’t going to walk themselves, so I packed up and got started. My energy was low, my feet hurt, and my hip was doing something unpleasant every time I walked. Yay, let’s go hike! 😂 I decided it was just going to be a slow day.
The pain in my hip went away, and my feet felt a little better about a mile or so in. Thank goodness! My first goal was to get to the highway, that would mark 8 miles. I’d be lying if the thought of hitching a ride from there to town didn’t cross my mind. 😂 I relaxed at the campground for about an hour and a half. I attempted a short nap on the picnic table in the shade, wishing I could just stay there all day. If I had enough water I probably would have.
Unsure if the break helped or hurt my motivation, up I went, only planning on about 4.5 more miles for the day. My body clearly needed a low mile day, so I listened.
Wow, great views once I entered the Trinity Wilderness. One of the many gorgeous reminders all day, that even on the tough days I’m so lucky to be out here experiencing this beauty.
I made it to camp where I had my very own grassy front yard for the night. Another hiker joined me and we chatted for a bit. With the conversation over and dinner done, I’m headed to bed. I should be asleep by 8, can’t wait!
Goodnight!
