Day 79: 1501.2-1511.2 (1,000 miles)

I woke up knowing today would be the day I’d hit 1,000 miles on trail. What I didn’t now I would get a surprise visit from my very favorite people, someone I met on day one of this adventure! There I was sitting at my new favorite grocery store charging all the things, consuming more of their delicious food, when I got a text from Stark Naked saying she was in town and had a car. Her and Mayo, another hiker I always love running into, came to hang for a bit and then take me back to the trail. We had a blast catching up, and as always it was hard to say goodbye. 

I was off, only a few miles until I got my 1,000th. It felt like no big deal at all at first, just another mile on trail. I had to put myself in check a bit, this was a big deal and I should be super proud of myself. As crazy as it sounds, once you’re out here long enough walking is just what you do, you don’t even think about it anymore. Wake up, walk 20 miles, and repeat. It becomes as normal as getting up and heading into work. Only I finally look forward to heading into “work” everyday. 😂

It wasn’t until I got a text from good ol Ring Master congratulating me and asking what I’ve learned so far that I began to reflect on how awesome this milestone really is. I even got a little emotional. My feet have walked through so much of this giant state that is California. Dang, I guess that is quite an accomplishment, go me! 😂 I celebrated, letting out a loud woohoo, and cheers’d myself with the wine I packed out. The downside of hiking solo is not having someone to celebrate with. Oh well, still pumped on my accomplishment, I hiked on a few more miles to camp. I was amped enough to go further, but the sun was going down, so I set up for the night.

I’m already looking forward to my next big milestone, my halfway point! Stay turned, 325 miles should fly by. …seriously! 😂
