Day 77: mile 1463.9-1485
I got out of my tent this morning and sure enough, a sea of people just like I thought. It went from empty when I got here, to 7 tents by 9:30 pm last night. 😂 Glad I have earplugs!Â
Everyone was up and packing by 6:30, the last two off for the day by 7:30. It was just me and the deer walking past my tent peering in looking very curious with it’s big eyes. I tried to start conversation, but began packing up at the lack of response. 😂
The first half of the day was all downhill. At every turn there was water, so I figured I’d stop to rinse off a bit. Gotta love starting the day out feeling fresh! …well as fresh as one gets from a creek.
Another day surrounded by trees. The shade was nice on this hot day, but I’m missing my views. It’s a different feeling not being able to see where you’re headed or where you came from. It’s kind of like hiking with blinders on, really pretty green blinders.
I stopped for water one more time before my 6 mile ascent. It felt like a long one. Although gradual, 6 miles uphill is still 6 miles uphill! 😂
As I began to go downhill I felt a little hotspot where the bottom and the back of my heel meet. Nooooo! What is this!? I don’t get blisters! Apparently I need new shoes for so many reasons. Normally I tape this spot to avoid just this, but the tape had come off. It was teeny tiny and under a callus, but worried it would get worse I took off my shoe and put on my sandal. It’s a good look don’t you think?
I made it to a beautiful campsite just off the trail. I’m just about as close to the river as you can get. I soaked my feet and washed my shirt and myself. Feeling like a whole new woman! …but a very tired one. Heading to bed with the intention of being on the trail by 7. 😳 I’ve got about 17 miles into town and I want to be there at a decent time. We’ll see how this goes.
Goodnight!
XOXO Becks
Such beautiful plants all around that area!
