Day 76: mile 1447.7-1463.9
I started down the trail around 9:45 feeling good about the snow situation. For longer than I expected just patches, and even when I did hit solid snow it was easy walking.
I decided to go up to the peak instead of around the side, as multiple people suggested. Up I went, no problem, until the snow ran out and I was stuck with the brush to get through. Only a short bushwhack and then I reached one of my favorite places yet. It was so beautiful even I had to stop for a proper break to enjoy it. Surrounded by mountains in every direction I was in heaven. It was hard to leave. If I wasn’t pressed for time on the trail I think I would’ve stayed there for the rest of the day.
At least I got to stare at the ever growing Mt Shasta for miles.
Really, the rest of the day was full of far away views. …that and snakes. 😂 Being so hot out the snakes wanted to enjoy the trail too. I almost stepped on the first one. The next one I was happy to get a warning from, a green mojave rattlesnake, one of the most poisonous I’m told. The last was small and slithered away almost before I could see it.
Okay, back to those views! 😍
The end of the day was downhill. As with yesterday the last two miles my feet were ready to call it quits. I stopped for water one last time and headed into camp. Empty when I showed up, I’m pretty sure there’s now a sea of tents filing the campsite. One after another people rolled into camp. I guess I wasn’t the only one who was slowed down by the snow. 😂 I’m going to attempt to head to bed soon while everyone gets situated here.
Goodnight!
XOXO Becks
Tree just happened to fall at that exact time? Or was it loose and you touched it!? So curious!
I caused it to fall when I climbed over it, using it for balance. …that clearly backfired on me. haha!
