Day 75: mile 1427.8-1447.7
As I got moving it didn’t seem as hot and miserable as yesterday, or maybe me telling myself that worked.
My plan was to make it to the snow everyone is nonstop talking about, which is said to be about 20 miles, perfect. I’m so curious to see what it’s like. A lot of people are flipping up to this area, so they haven’t experienced any or very little snow yet. My guess is this will be a breeze and they’re just not used to it.
I spent most of the day under tree cover. This was great, kept me pretty cool, and saved me some sunscreen. It was also a different feeling than I’m used to. Until now the PCT has offered big views far into the distance, which is my jam. I imagine this is what hiking the Appalachian Trail is like. They call it the ‘Green Tunnel’, and that’s what I felt like I was in.
I did pop out a few times to get a view of Mt Shasta and the surrounding mountains. Beautiful. I can’t believe how close Shasta has gotten in a few days. I’ll be back to climb it some day!
The last few miles of my day my feet were feelin it. I’m happy I’ll have some new shoes waiting for me in Dunsmuir. I think they’re also getting used to long days on dirt again. They’ve been swollen since I got out of being in the snow regularly. They’ll have about 4 miles worth of snow to ice them tomorrow. 😂
Despite my feet slowing me down a bit I made it to camp before I expected. This site is awesome! Fire ring with a few places to sit, my own stream, and a flat spot for my tent. Perfection! The amount of effort that would go into making a fire is way too much for me, but I like that I have the option.
I washed these dirty feet and got into my tent for dinner. Headed to bed early tonight since I managed to stay up way too late last night.
Goodnight!
