Day 74: mile 1419-1427.8 (Burney Falls)
Ahhhh… the Sunday morning espresso bar was open at the church and I couldn’t wait to get over there for my latte. My new buddy John even put a little coconut flavor in for me. Fab!
I packed my things and Jay and I headed over to meet Dipity and her boyfriend. They offered us a ride to Burney Falls before they head out of town. Poor Dipity has now been diagnosed with not one, but two stomach viruses, so she is taking some much needed time off trail to recover. Super bummed to see her go.
…and then there was one. I’ve lost the last of my snow crew. Back to solo for me.
We all walked down to the Falls together. Wow, it was definitely a sight to see. Jay and I left the two love birds to have some alone time and walked down to the bottom where it was nice and cool. It was like someone turned on the AC all of the sudden, which was amazing because it was real hot! He got in the water, but by his expression I decided to pass on taking a swim. I didn’t even have to feel it to know that water was way too cold for me. 😂
I looked for Dipity to say goodbye, but I didn’t see her. Possibly a good thing, I would’ve gotten sad and sappy since this might be the last time I ever see her. I grabbed a few postcards and headed out to hit the trail. It was hot and humid and uphill, so that was fun. 😂 Lacking motivation, I didn’t make it very far before I called it a night.
I set up my tent in the mosquito zone (which is everywhere around here) in full gear and quickly climbed inside just in time for an unexpected rain storm to hit. The rain pounded my tent while I streamed a few shows on HBO. Yep, you know I stayed up too late, but I couldn’t resist since this is a rarity. Way to set myself up for success tomorrow. 😂 I did at least give myself a little pep talk today about getting my mental motivation back, so we’ll see if I listen to myself. 😂 Headed to bed.
Goodnight!
