Day 58: mile 1242.9-1263.5 (Buck’s Lake)
I attempted to dry a few things in the ever moving spots of sunshine before I left camp. Pretty unsuccessful, so I made my way down the trail. Feeling excited it was snow free!
The trail was mostly a tunnel of trees, but every once in a while I got a view of the blue sky and neighboring mountains.
My favorite part part of the day was getting to cross over the Feather River a few times. I could hear the water as I was coming down the hill. By the sounds of it, I expected a bridge, and thank goodness I was right. It was rafting worthy water.
Now let’s talk about my least favorite part of the day, the snow and unexpected miles. Here I thought I was going to make it to camp snow free, nope! The last mile or so leading up to our meeting spot I put on my microspikes and made my way to the lookout where I found Ring Master waiting for me. Everyone had decided not to camp up here after all and instead wanted to just head into town tonight. Dipity was nursing an infected blister, so that made sense. We snapped a few photos of the unbelievable view and headed down.
It was snow covered and slippery all the way to the road. Ring Master took a bad fall and possibly broke a finger, poor guy. Once we reached the bottom we started our road walk into Bucks Lake where we planned to meet up with Dipity and Ratatouille.
We made it to the lodge, happy to be done pounding the pavement, and even happier they opened the kitchen up just for us! I got in touch with Dipity while we ate dinner. They’d made it to Quincy, lucky ducks! We were stuck for the night, so we got a room since it was cold, wet, and dark and we had no interest in setting up our tents. At least I got a hot meal, shower, and I’m in a big warm bed. Off to Quincy tomorrow. Looking forward to taking a zero there!
Goodnight!
