Day 5-Today Felt Like Home

Day 5: mile 59.7-81.6

And so begins my days of 4 am wake ups. No alarm needed, that’s just what happens when you go to bed at 9 I guess. It was a cold morning, and I wasn’t getting out of my quilt until the sun came up.

Once I did get moving, holy wow! This hike today was gorgeous! I don’t know about you, but I love the high desert. At every turn I was talking to myself out loud about how insanely beautiful the scenery was. All the rain this year has made this section so lush and green, thank you nature!

Throughout the day the desert landscape changed and new plants and cacti popped up over the 20 or so miles I hiked. So many wildflowers too! During many parts of the day I felt like I was hiking back home in Arizona, which was a nice feeling. I have so much love for the desert.

In true desert fashion it was hot and dry, so my water sources were two water caches. One small cache, and one large cache where a lot of hikers gathered to get out of the heat. I stopped briefly at the first, but took a much needed cool-down at the second, Scissors Crossing. I sat in the shade for 30-40 minutes talking, stretching, and relaxing. The water and the cool breeze were just what I needed.

I said goodbye and made the climb up to my campsite. I found a nice little spot with a great view and called it a day.

Goodnight!

XOXO Becks
