Day 45: mile 603.4-621.9
Yes, my tent is dry! The sprinkles as I was falling asleep left me thinking I’d be packing up another wet tent.
In an attempt to be up and at em at early as possible I did most of my morning chores last night, so I didn’t have much to do while I gave my socks and shoes some time to dry in the sunshine. Dang, even my pigtails still looked good. Tick tock…
Once I got moving I decided it was time for a quick creek bath. Taking the risk of someone walking up on me doing so, I went for it right off trail. My friend Mary Jo literally caught me with my pants down. We had a laugh while we hiked off chatting about the topic of topics, our next move after the desert section. Both still uncertain of our exact plan post Walker Pass, which is just 30 short miles away.
Quickly approaching the time the heavy rains were set to hit, I was delighted to see clear skies and sunshine. This allowed me to get my first glimpse of the Sierra Nevada’s waaaay in the distance. I could barely see the snow capped mountains, but took comfort knowing I wouldn’t be crossing them until late summer.
In the heat of this surprisingly sunny day I was happy to be approaching one of the big water caches in this section. What’s better than a huge water cache in the middle of the desert? A huge water cache and trail magic! I turned the corner, and was offered a cold drink and a PB&J! I was running low on food due to the fact I was attempting to drag this section out a couple days longer than I originally planned, so that sandwich made my day. Thanks Kim’s Dad!
The clouds finally decided to make a short appearance so I headed out. Just enough rain and hail to make me put my gear on for the 5 minutes it stormed and then sweat profusely until I stopped to take it all back off. 😂
I finished up my last few miles for the day and set up at a spot with a picnic table, and the rare treat of some service. I can feel the extra late start tomorrow due to the service already. 😂
Goodnight!
