Day 35: mile 464-478.2 (Casa de Luna)
I woke up feeling great, and ready to get some miles in. The only question I had today was whether or not to check out Casa de Luna, which is an infamous stop along the trail. I decided it would be a game time decision.
I started down the trail and the reservoir came into view. It looked really pretty, but all I could think about was how much I wanted to jump in it. It was pretty toasty already. This made the next stop a very welcomed surprise. A water cache! I chugged down a liter of water and continued on. The day was pretty easy, a climb here and there, but mostly flat into Green Valley.
The closer to Casa de Luna I got the more certain I became I was in fact going to make a stop. Why not? I got to the bottom of the hill and got a hitch to the convenience store to pick up a few things and then on I went. …well me and a truck full of hikers of course. 😂
I was greeted with a hug from Terrie who is one of the wonderful trail angels who owns the house, as well as my choice of a Hawaiian shirt to wear during my stay here. Then I wondered back into the manzanita forest, which is the backyard she and her husband Joe have turned into a maze of countless campsites. It is unbelievable!
After I picked my spot I joined the crew of hikers out front to relax and have a good time.
Later in the evening everyone gathered around for dinner, always the famous taco salad. Terrie watched closely to make sure the house rules are followed, otherwise you’ll get a swat on your booty with the yardstick. 😂 Following dinner we all take turns hitting the dance floor with our moves to earn our bandana. They create a new one each year. I did the hula, feeling inspired by my Hawaiian shirt.
I can’t believe I even thought about skipping this place! I already let a few people talk me into taking a zero here, so more to come on the Casa de Luna shenanigans mañana!
Goodnight!

Hahah the yard stick! Love it. Looks like you can see it in that one last photo 🤣.
It’s hilarious. I was surprised (or disappointed) at how light the swat was when I saw her do it. Haha
