Day 3: mile 32-45
As I took my earplugs out I heard everyone getting their tents packed up, chatting about how far they were hiking for the day. I had planned another late start, and 15 miles again, so I was in no rush. When I got out of my tent I saw the dog had taken off. It appeared I was out a hiking partner, but I hoped maybe he was headed home. …or at least with someone who had more food to share. I went about my morning routine and finally packed up.
As I was about to leave a woman named Happy Feet walked into camp. I met her the day before where we discussed trying to find the owners for the dogs. She had amazing news; she was able to track down the owners for both dogs, knew who the dogs were currently following, and said they would be picked up in Mount Laguna. Don’t you just love a happy ending! Oh, and I found out the dog I had been adventuring with yesterday is called Logan! With a happy heart I started the trail. Happy Logan was back with his owner, but I will admit I was missing my little buddy already!
The hike was uphill all day, but gradual, so still pretty easy going to me. The day brought so many awesome surprises like meadows, a variety of vegetation, and my favorite surprise, pine trees! As soon as I started walking through the pine trees I could smell that unmistakable aroma and I couldn’t stop smiling. Not sure what it is about them that always gives me that feeling?
Shortly after entering the pines was the turn off for Mount Laguna. I decided to pop into town, because why not! It was only 1/4 mile off trail and it was time for a break anyway. I stopped at the Pine House Restaurant and Tavern for a couple beers. I was greeted by some fellow hikers I recognized so I sat down to join them. We chatted for an hour or so and then I was on my way, I wanted to hike another 5 miles for the day.
As I walked up to the campsite a few hikers from the night before were already there setting up for the night. The site was unbelievable! The views in all directions were gorgeous! We all sat around talking and eating dinner, waiting for the sunset we knew would be nothing short of amazing. It did not disappoint. It got dark quickly and we all retired to our tents for the night, but not before planning for an early morning wake up to watch the sunrise. This should definitely be one worth getting up for, pics to come!
Goodnight!
XOXO Becks
Bye Logan!! Keep me updated on Idyllwild dates. I might try and meet ya there in case I’d miss ya in Big Bear if it overlaps with Ragnar. Idyllwild will be like 2-2.5 hours away. Not bad! xoxo
Idyllwild should be a fun time! You should look into Wrightwood too, it’s about an hour-hour and a half from you I think. I’ll keep ya posted in the next few days. XO!
