Day 27&28: miles 364.4-369.3 (Nero & Zero in Wrightwood)
Today I woke up cold and ready to be in town. It was only 5 short miles to the hitch, but my mindset today was making it seem much longer. My leg was still bothering me quite a bit, so I’ll blame that.
I popped back and forth between the forest road and the trail depending on whether the trail was snow covered or not. They ran parallel, so it was an easy switch. I made it past a few ski lifts and down to Inspiration Point where I was quickly picked up by a man with an adorable poodle! Instantly my day got better. 😊
I made it to Mountain Hardware to pick up my package and check the list of Trail Angels in town. I’d heard everything fills up fast here, so I was on a mission. The first woman I called agreed to take me in for the night. She sounded so sweet on the phone and gave me a list of places to check out in town until she was able to pick me up this evening.
I walked over to Cinnamon’s Bakery and had what I claim is the best veggie sandwich ever. I went back the next day it was so good!
Then I headed to the grocery store, the brewery, and finally the Mexican Lindo where it was 5 cent margarita night! I will say I felt a little cheated when I was told upon ordering my second, it was only the first marg that was 5 cents. Oh well, the burrito was delicious and the size of my arm so I’ll forgive them. The salsa was amazing too. I love salsa so much I could almost eat it like soup, so it’s always nice to find a good one. 😂
My Trail Angels (Diana and Ken) were also eating there tonight, so I sat and chatted with them while they ate. It was really fun and interesting getting to know them a bit. They gave me a quick tour of the neighborhood and we headed back to their house. The house was really nice, AND I had my own room and bathroom, no way! We chatted for a bit and then I headed to bed early as usual, still on hiker time.
I woke up the next day to a full pot of fresh coffee Ken made for me before he left for work, so nice of him! I did some laundry and talked with Diana before she had to get her day started as well. She is a woman of many talents, one of them is in the kitchen. She makes and sells amazing granola, caramel corn, and cookies. The house smelled heavenly, and everything tasted just as good! She was nice enough to give me some for the road too, yes!
The rest of the day was filled with errands and catching up with a few people who got into town.
That night Diana and I cooked dinner, with enough for me to pack out leftovers (woohoo!). I attempted to get myself ready to leave the next day, but was pretty tired and went to bed instead. Heading to sleep I’m thinking how lucky I am to have met such generous people who welcomed me into their home and treated me like family. A thousand thank you’s wouldn’t quite be enough!
Goodnight!
