Day 26: mile 343.6-364.4

I ended up getting a good nights sleep despite the trains going by, and my leg was feeling a lot better, yes! It was going to be an uphill day, and I was excited about it. I slept around 3,000 feet and my goal for the day, Guffy Campground is at 8,200 feet. That’s a lot of climbing, better get started! Oh, and there’s potentially no water today unless a cache was refilled. Fingers crossed, I only have about 3 liters. 

I began my climb, it was very gradual, and didn’t last too long. I descended back down to the road to where the water cache I was sure would be empty was located. I got super lucky and those who came before me left about 1/2 a liter of water for me. I was so excited!

Now let’s get down to business and climb this mountain. Not so gradually, I headed up, and up, and up! I was in the mood to climb, so even though it was tough, it was fun. The views were beyond rewarding too. 

With about 8 miles left in my day I met Bud from San Diego. We chatted each other’s ears off as we climbed. The time flew by and before we knew it we were at the campsite Bud planned on staying at for the night. I was tempted to stay too, quite a few people I knew were also staying there. However, I pushed on knowing I’d be happy I hiked the extra 2.5 miles tomorrow. 

Of course my day ended with snow! 😂 Those last 2.5 miles were long, slow, and painful with my leg flaring up again. I was pretty exhausted, so much so I was climbing over a down tree and just sat there for a minute in need of a break. 

Finally, made it to Guffy Campground, woohoo! I found a sweet spot with my own picnic table and fire pit. I knew I wouldn’t use either, but it was still exciting. 😂 I set my tent up just in time to enjoy a gorgeous sunset before bed. My leg is killing me, but right now all I can think about is how much fun I had today!
