Day 24-The Hot Springs Stole My Underwear!

Day 24: mile 307.8-328.1

Ahhh waking up to the sounds of the river …and the couple next to you fighting about something ridiculous. The downside to camping at such an accessible location. Well that and the scary amount of toilet paper here. Leave NO trace people!

It was actually super pleasant waking up here, nice and warm. I love sleeping on the sand. If I hadn’t just taken 4 zeros in Big Bear I’d probably stay here today. Plus the fact it’s Saturday and I’m almost positive I’d get into trouble and be hungover tomorrow tells me to get moving.

As I was packing I realized I was missing something. The hot springs stole my underwear! Hmmm…the price you pay for not getting naked there I guess? 🤣

Leaving the hot springs I was definitely scouting out some future locations to camp. There were tons of great paths down to private beaches, which is more appealing to me than the crowded hot springs. Plus my favorite bridge yet, the rainbow bridge!

Unfortunately, shortly after the bridge graffiti covered the rocks and trash was scattered on the ground. Ill never understand why people choose to do these things. Grr!

I crossed a river and began to climb. The day got really windy from here. I passed pretty yellow flowers, cows grazing, and a power plant. I decided to have some fun with the giant cement cylinders in the power plant graveyard.

The power plant meant I was almost to my favorite part of the day, Silverwood Lake. It was gorgeous! Another spot I’d love to come back to.

Did I mention the picnic area I was headed to had running water, bathrooms, and pizza delivery?! I hadn’t seen anyone all day so I thought I’d be alone in my quest for the picnic area, but as I walked up I saw about 15 hikers all gathered around the picnic tables eating pizza and drinking beer. I should’ve known better, if there’s a chance for hikers to get hot food we won’t miss it. I was greeted with a big hello and a beer. It was so much fun meeting a few new faces and chatting with everyone.

This was by far the most people I’d camped with. I set myself up next to a few other tents and made sure to put my earplugs in so I could get a good nights sleep. I’m planning on a later start than usual tomorrow, I’m in no rush to leave this luxury!

Goodnight!

XOXO Becks
