Day 188: mile 1090-1098.3
I woke up and ate some of my leftover pizza before getting organized and packing up to start my last section of the trail. The morning was overall kind of sad. I had to say goodbye to Yukon, who I probably won’t see anytime soon. It’s always so hard saying goodbye to your trail friends because everyone lives all over the place. I was also sad my journey would be over in just a few days.
We checked out of the hotel and split a Lyft back to the trailhead where we said our goodbyes and headed off in opposite directions.
Sad it’s my last section
The trail followed the highway and then passed by Echo Lake Chalet, which was closed for the season. There were still quite a few people in the area hiking around. During the season there’s a ferry that shuttles people to the other side. I bet it’s a nice ride, but the walk around the lake was really enjoyable too.
I walked slowly, stopping along the way to talk with other hikers, in no hurry since I didn’t plan to make it too far.
My destination for the night was Lake Aloha. It was crowded with groups spread out everywhere. No surprise since it’s such a short(ish) hike from the parking lot. I found a spot and set up just in time to watch the sunset. The colors reflecting off the lake added to the beautiful show in the sky. I hope the trail continues to send me out just like this!
Goodnight!
