Day 147: mile 2535.7-2557.5
Woke up in a mood today, a great mood! I was ready to take on the day and kill some miles! The first 5 miles of the day were a gift, mostly flat or downhill, such an amazing break from the constant climbs lately. I was flying feeling so good!
The next 12 miles however, were uphill. Somehow I miscalculated the climb last night …not in my favor of course. It was a little rough and maybe this is TMI, but I happened to be on my period (for weeks now, but that’s a whole other story I won’t get into) and it was really draining me today. On top of that my calorie intake has been lacking, so my energy went from super high, to pretty low as the day went on. I definitely need to add a few snacks to my next resupply.
The great news is there was no shortage of great views to keep me moving despite my low energy.
Toward the end of my day I met a deer who hiked ahead of me for half a mile or so, frequently turning around to say hello and make sure I was still back there. It was pretty cute!
As per usual here in northern WA the campsite I planned on was full. I continued on an extra mile (future me thanked me for that) to another very full campsite, but there were still a couple spots left for me to set up. My tent was a bit lager than the spot, so I had to set it up a bit awkwardly. All the while a very …interesting hiker was chatting my ear off. But hey, the view is spectacular, there’s a pit toilet for the morning, and it’s the last night I have to use my pen as an eating utensil, overall it’s a win! Town day tomorrow, which means the Stehekin Bakery! I’ve been dreaming about it for hundreds of miles!
Goodnight!
