Day 140-Back Into the Grey

Day 140: mile 2420.4-2438.4

I was up and out just in time to keep my tent dry. As soon as I hit the trail it started sprinkling hard enough to bust out the umbrella I’ve been unnecessarily carrying around for the past 1,000+ miles.

So many berries again today! I stood on the trail for quite a while collecting them, moving along until they were gone, and collecting more. I had to cut myself off. So many delicious distractions in WA. Seriously don’t think store bought berries will ever be quite as delicious anymore.

It only rained for an hour or so, but the trail was slightly overgrown which meant even though it wasn’t raining my clothes and shoes were still getting soaked as I brushed against the bushes.

The entire day was grey and cloudy, and my views were gone. I think that had an effect on my mood and motivation. Well that, and the killer rocky downhill that would never end. It was not kind to my feet.

Once to the bottom I started my climb back up to the top where I planned to camp for the night. There were some really beautiful spots just off the trail, but today I was the late one into camp, so everything was already full. The rain started to pour down and I was ready to be inside my tent. I finally found a spot just off the trail and quickly set up. I jumped inside attempting to keep it as dry as possible, hanging my jacket and wet gear from my trekking poles. Not that it’ll be dry by tomorrow morning, but it makes me feel better to try!

I didn’t make it quite as far as planned today, so I can’t help but stress a little bit now that I have a flight and I’m on a time schedule. Guess I better start pushing myself a little on this trail!

Goodnight!
