Day 134: mile 2326.2-2347.5
Sheep Lake was such a nice treat to wake up to in the morning, even if it was packed full of people. I didn’t get to enjoy it much last night feeling the way I did, so I walked down to the water to fill my bottle and take in the view before heading out.
It was a bit chilly with the wind, but the uphill made short work of my puffy and I was sweating before I knew it. I popped up and over the top and the wind died. The view on this side was even better than where I’d just come from.
Following the side of the mountain, I looked out for miles, listening to the sounds of the grasshoppers surrounding me and I couldn’t have been happier. Even though again I hadn’t gotten a good nights sleep, it wasn’t going to stop me from enjoying my beautiful day.
My eyes spent the afternoon delightfully surprised as I turned every corner or climbed to a new view. The green hillsides and rocky mountain tops were breathtaking. Some were covered in wildflowers, or even better wild strawberries! So tiny, but so delicious. The wild berries on this trail have ruined me for store-bought forever.
I reached the burn area and passed a SOBO who let me know the cabin I planned to stay at had about 50 hikers there last night! I hadn’t passed anywhere near that many people today, so who knows where they all went.
As I dipped down into the trees and reached the cabin. I had my fingers crossed for less people tonight. It appeared there were only a few backpackers, but there was also a group on ATVs making a mess of the trail (which they’re not supposed to be on), and sadly wrecking the meadow right in front of the cabin. I gave them the stare down and they drove off shortly after. I’ll pretend I played a part in that, but it was also getting dark.
I set up my tent just outside of the cabin since this one had no solar lights and the girl inside made it clear she was already headed to sleep (at 7 pm). I can already feel the moisture in the air, condensation this way comes.
Goodnight!
