Day 129: mile 2261.2-2274
Wow, what a night! That storm definitely beats the last crazy one in Northern California. So. Much. Rain. The tent site I set up in had a spot where the water pooled, so the area below my head was floating on an inch of so of water. This wonderful pool also alerted me to the fact I must have some micro holes in the floor of my tent because I had a little water inside too. Oh well, nothing important got wet.
Due to the storm I slept off and on (mostly off unfortunately) until about 8:30, so I didn’t leave until 10:40. This little stretch is the land of short days and delays.
I started out in the trees yet again, but at least today I knew I’d have some views coming my way. People have been talking about Goat Rocks for 100 miles or so. The area didn’t disappoint. Lucky for me the clouds were clearing a bit, so as I climbed I began to see out for miles.
When I peaked over the top and caught my first glimpse of Goat Rocks I stopped in my tracks. I stood starring in awe. It was even better than I expected! …I didn’t know what to expect exactly, but this more than lived up to the hype. I had to remind myself to keep my eyes on the trail so I didn’t walk off the side.
I came to Cispus Pass, popped over to the other side and lost it. It was unbelievable. Words and even these photos can’t describe the beauty. This is what I’m talking about Washington! I could stay right here forever it’s so perfect.
The weather was again supposed to storm, so I made the decision to make it yet another short day to enjoy the area, but more so to avoid being in an exposed area should the lightening come back. I pulled into camp and set up just as the sprinkles started.
I could get used to these short days, but then I’d never make it through the trail. Plus, who wants to carry all that extra food!? Back to 20+ miles tomorrow. Hopefully the clouds will be gone so I can make the most of my morning views, which promises to be just as beautiful as today. Can’t wait!
Goodnight!
