Day 128: mile 2242.8-2261.2
My alarm went off and I jumped into action. I may take my sweet time, starting an hour later than planned when it’s just me, but I have no problem making it happen when I need to. I packed up and was right on time to cross at 6 am.
The water level was dramatically different, exposing the logs previous hikers had commented on. We all made it one-by-one with ease, so happy with our decision to play it safe.
We walked two more miles and stopped at the falls for breakfast. Dad Jokes headed out first, I left shortly after knowing I was shooting for a big day. Being up this early I should be able to hit high 20’s or even a 30 without a problem. I was pretty pumped!
Early afternoon I stumbled upon some trail magic, and one of my favorite people from the trail, Stark Naked. What a fun surprise! Unfortunately since I was on a mission I couldn’t stay long.
Around 3 o’clock I was feeling pretty done for the day. My nausea has been pretty bad all day (everyday lately), and I had already hiked my usual 9 hours, so I decided I’d take an extended break. I even set up my tent so I could avoid the mosquitoes and actually relax. I was just in time to avoid getting soaked in possibly the biggest rainstorm yet!
With that, my break turned into an early day, which made my 30 mile day into an 18.4 mile day. Bummed about that, but happy to be dry and in a safe place as the lightening flashed across the sky right above me. I’d originally planned to camp in a pretty exposed area if I had kept moving. I thought of my new friends, who were also shooting for the same miles, hoping they were safe too.
The storm doesn’t seem to be letting up, but I’m going to attempt to get some sleep anyway. Between the flashes of lightening, booming thunder, and the pouring rain, it could be a challenge!
Goodnight!
