Day 125: mile 2208.8-2229.4 (highway to Trout Lake)
Day 126: Zero in Trout Lake
Day 125
I was impressed by my early start, getting out of camp and on the trail by 8 am. It must be Town Day!
As I was cruising right along I noticed a hiker who looked quite familiar walking toward me…Ring Master? No way! He’d been doing trail magic the past few weeks and once he figured out where I was decided to surprise me, so fun! We walked back to where he’d parked, and then possibly the best thing ever happened, I got to slack-pack the remaining 15 or so miles. I ditched most of my gear in his van and hiked the rest of the day with hardly anything in my pack. It was glorious!
After flying through the miles he was there waiting for me at the trailhead to take me into town. No shuttle needed. I was way ahead of schedule, so he saved me hours of waiting, woohoo! We gave a few other hikers a ride into town and stopped off for food and beers. It was such a great day! Always surprise your friends on trail if you can, its the best!
Day 126
I woke up fully intending on leaving town, but oops, accidental zero instead. The day didn’t start out great for me, my nausea was back with vengeance this morning. Ugh! It was as bad as Timberline, and those anti-nausea pills didn’t do a damn thing. In my grumpy mood, I stopped over to throw in a load of laundry and I just got a bad vibe for some reason (probably just my mood). I wanted nothing more than to get out of there and back on the trail. Little did I know my day was about to turn around!
I sat in the grass sorting out my resupply along with the other hikers, when my friend Kinda Bird walked up out of nowhere! I hadn’t seen her since the desert. She skipped up a few hundred miles so she can make it to Canada by her deadline. We chatted for a while and my spirit was lifted immediately, my nausea seemed to go away as well. …so did my motivation to leave. The sun was hot (95 degrees or so), and I met some really great people who just jumped off the shuttle that continued to sway my decision to stay. Trout Lake went from somewhere I couldn’t get out of fast enough to somewhere I was so happy to be. The people on this trail are the best!
After dinner we sat around drinking beers and wine and trading stories. I’m finally headed to sleep way past hiker midnight, I’ve got to make it out tomorrow for sure!
Goodnight!
