Day 123: mile 2167.8-2187.6
The nice thing about these hot steamy days, warm mornings! No hiding under my quilt today. …a sign for how profusely I’d be sweating all day, sure, but I’ll take it! I was off into the trees once again.
I climbed for miles, enjoying the work I had to do. Call me crazy, but all the climbs are one of the things about WA I’ve been looking forward to. I would have no shortage at the beginning and end of my day.
The slugs were also out enjoying a little morning exercise. They’re everywhere out here, little green turds on the trail. That’s what they look like to me anyway. Watch your step!
What went up (that’s me!), came back down. I stopped at the river for a bit to soak my feet and wash my shirt. The area was busy with people fishing and relaxing, and dogs running around enjoying the cool water just as much as me.
There was a bit of trail magic just after the bridge, but all I took advantage of was the chair to sit in. It was quite nice, but I didn’t stay long since I’d just taken an extended break at the river.
I stopped once more for water before the steep portion began. Not realizing how much sweat would be pouring from my body, I didn’t grab as much water as I should have. Lucky for me, there was a cache up ahead, and a SOBO (southbound hiker) confirmed there was water there, phew! Apparently beer earlier in the day too, but I still had one in my pack so water was all I cared about.
The last 2 miles to the cache/camp felt long. Although my new shoes were more cushioned and absolutely wonderful, my feet were still done for the day. They celebrated as I arrived and took my pack off. I filled my bottle with the last bit of water from the cache and set up. That SOBO must’ve been paying more attention to the beers than the water, there was hardly any left and he made it seem like there was plenty. I’m feeling extra thankful right now, it would’ve been a rough start tomorrow if the cache had been dry.
I’m exhausted, but feeling good about it. A great day always seems to follow a really rough one, and thank goodness because I needed it. To top it off, it’s warm enough to relax in my underwear! Hooray!
Goodnight!
