Day 118: 2142.3- Cascade Locks
I woke and got moving extra early since I had so many things to be excited for. Today was town day, I’d be crossing the border into Washington, and my Mom and sister are coming to visit! I couldn’t get down the mountain fast enough!
As The Bridge of the Gods came into sight, I didn’t expect so much emotion to well up. I got teary eyed with excitement and more so pride. Oregon has been so tough for me mentally. There were so many days I felt like I just wanted to make it through instead of really enjoying myself like I had before. I struggled constantly with the green tunnel, and I don’t have to tell you again how much I hated the mosquitoes. However, through it all I never gave up, and for that I am so proud of me!
With tears in my eyes and a smile on my face I walked across the bridge into Washington, officially checking off my first full state. It felt so good, and the end felt like it was in sight for the first time! …even if I still had 1,000 miles to go.
I walked back across the bridge into Oregon to meet my Mom and sister. They pulled into the brewery where they bravely gave this stinky hiker trash a hug. I was so happy to see them! We chatted over food and beers before we hopped in the car to head to our hotel in Portland. I am so excited to spend a few days with them, and have a little break from the trail.
Goodnight!
