Day 113: mile 2055.5-2075.3
My day started by backtracking half a mile for water. Trooper Spring (where I camped) was nothing more than a pool of questionable looking water and mud. I was feeling slightly annoyed after my mile long side trip, but I knew it was the responsible thing to do since there was no water for miles and I only had a few sips left.
The day was pretty hot, humid, and uneventful, and I was feeling sluggish as I headed uphill. I made it to the top, and no change in energy. To add to that, my stomach wasn’t feeling great. I couldn’t place my finger on what exactly felt wrong, but I do remember feeling like some bread, specifically a sandwich would make it better. I haven’t had too many random food cravings out here, but a sandwich sounded so amazing!
I came across my next water source where I started chatting with a southbounder. He told me about some really amazing trail magic about 8 miles ahead. Remember when I told you how “the trail provides” a few posts back? Well, today was possibly the best example of that! This is going to sound like I made up wishing for a sandwich once I tell you about the trail magic up ahead. So what was it? You guessed it, sandwiches! I couldn’t believe it.
Although I was pumped for the upcoming trail magic I was still feeling a little blah. The trail was pretty dead today, so I decided to plop down right in the middle of it. I laid so comfortably, reclining on my pack for a few glorious minutes before moving along. I definitely could’ve napped right there.
The trail magic was even better than I imagined! Sandwiches with all the fixings. It was like I found a sub shop mid trial. I loaded up with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and even a vegan meat substitute (it was better than it sounds). Check out the rest of this spread, chips, cookies, candy, drinks… it was a thru hikers dream come true.
I ate far too much to comfortably hike, but I had a few more miles to do so on I went. The fact it was a stinky horse camp helped motivate me to move on too. I made my way down a little side trail and parked myself near the creek.
After a quick evening bath I set up and hopped inside my tent. I think I’m feeling a little better, but I’m so full right now who knows? No need for dinner tonight.
Goodnight!
