Day 112: mile 2033.2-2055.5
My shoes hadn’t dried at all, and my tent was filled with condensation just as I thought it would be. It was also crazy cold, I later found out it was 36 degrees! Not very motivating.
The day started with a 1,500 foot climb. Unlike most of the climbs in Oregon, it wasn’t spread out over 7 miles. It was quick and easy, and I was done before I knew it.
As I came over the top to the other side I caught my first view of Mt Hood. I can’t wait to get a closer look in the coming days!
I was cruising right along, making good time, but then all of the sudden my body hit a wall. Maybe it was the hot, humid weather? That’s right, it went from almost freezing to super toasty out. Whatever it was, I decided to make a stop at Olallie Lake. How could I not, it was a whole .1 miles off trail. They had a small “resort” with a store, so I figured a cold drink and a break might help.
I sat on the front porch with Alex, who works at the store, and chatted for longer than I planned to stay. It was good conversation, so totally worth it. However, I still had 9 miles to do and it was 5 pm, time to go.
Back on the trail and feeling much better. I flew through the last 9 miles and made it to camp around 8. I was proud of myself for hitting my goal. It would’ve been much easier just to stay at the lake.
The campsites in the area were packed, especially since I was last to get there. I squeezed in, ate dinner, and am headed straight to bed.
Goodnight!
