Day 111-Oregon Is Bringing It’s A Game

Day 111: mile 2012.3-2033.2

I packed up and headed out, my muscles feeling a little looser after my rolling session last night. Good thing, the day started with a climb and some great views.

To my surprise, the whole day was filled with great views. Were my days of the green tunnel behind me? I hope so! Look at you Oregon, trying to end on a good note. I’ll take it!

As I enjoyed my surroundings, I also enjoyed the sound of Levar Burton reading me adult fiction via his podcast. It’s my new obsession. Give it a listen!! Have I already mentioned this?

Mt Jefferson

The end of my day started much like the beginning, in a burn area. The campsites weren’t looking very safe, which turned out to be a good thing, it made me push a little further than I felt like hiking. It also made me cross a river. This on the other hand was kind of a bummer. It meant cold wet feet for the last few miles, and wet feet tomorrow morning too since the sun wasn’t out.

Myself and another hiker searched high and low for a good spot to cross. The river was moving pretty quickly and we were unable to see the bottom to judge the depth. He finally went for it, and made it across safely. I followed, finding it to be only calf high in this spot, awesome!

The crossing from a distance.

Onward and to camp. I was moving fast to try and warm up and get there before dark. All of the sudden the area was super lush and green. Turn a corner and you’d never know there had been a huge fire. I set up quickly and jumped inside my tent before too many mosquitoes got me. The hiker from the river crossing and his partner joined me shortly after, clearly unhappy they couldn’t start a fire due to restrictions in this specific area. I guess we’ll all have wet shoes tomorrow. I took out my insoles to attempt to get my shoes as dry as possible, we’ll see how much it helps. Think dry thoughts for me!

Goodnight!
