Day 108: mile 1968.1-1986.9
Holy mosquito! The swarms were wild this morning! All mosquito gear was needed to pack up my tent and get moving. Of course multiple bites still happened. I hope you never get tired of hearing about how horrible they are, because I’ll never get tired of telling you about them. Here’s some pretty photos as a thank you for listening to me complain…
I still had Big Lake Youth Camp in my sights when I started the day. I knew I was headed into the volcanic rock, but goodnesssss, I had no idea how much. It was patchy at first, and silly me I thought I was done after just a few miles, I hadn’t seen anything yet!
The real deal came late in the day. It was brutal. The rocks were rough, uneven, and radiating heat. Not to mention they were so slow to get through. The worst part was I could see no end in sight. Big Lake wasn’t happening at this point.
I got through the rocks and parked it about 8 miles outside of Big Lake. At least it’ll be a quick trip down. I should make it for lunch, can’t wait to see what they’re serving! Dreams of buffet style food tonight for sure!
Goodnight!
