Day 104: mile 1906.6-1914.4 (Shelter Cove to Maiden Peak Shelter)
What a fun time yesterday turned into once I got to Shelter Cove. I thought I’d be paying for it this morning with a bad hangover, but apparently my body wasn’t too angry at me for letting David and Budweiser sponsor the afternoon. Maybe it knew I really needed it after the hike in.
I joined everyone for breakfast and said goodbyes as people left one by one. I still had laundry to do and postcards to write. Postcards from Crater Lake, oops. 😂 …and apparently no time for photo documentation of any of this, double oops.
Being the last one out has its advantages, I got to meet a whole new group of people just arriving, and say hi to my friend Yukon. He snapped this super sweet photo of my new mosquito pants. Who knew sanity only costs $15! 😂
I said goodbye to everyone and headed out for the shelter just over 9 miles out. On the way there were a few lakeside campsites that were pretty hard to pass up, but I had a goal. …even if it was a small one.
A few people I talked to this morning planned on staying at the shelter as well, so I knew I’d have some company. I showed up and received a warm welcome. We all sat around chatting over dinner. Myself and Jukebox took the loft upstairs while the rest spread out downstairs or set up tents outside. Sleeping outside seemed silly to me in this situation. I’ll take any opportunity I can to not have to set up my tent and sleep indoors!
Definitely feeling refueled mentally after getting to spend some time with good people the past two days. I needed that. Ready to rock out the remaining 80 miles to Big Lake Youth Camp!
Goodnight!
