Day 103 :1889.5-1906.2 Shelter cove
The mosquitoes ate my tent bag! Ugh! They didn’t of course, but in my fury to get away from them last night I didn’t put my bag in it’s usual spot and must’ve left it outside to blow away in the wind. Is my blood not enough!? 😂
I thought I felt pretty good today, but as soon as I started walking it was clear it was going to be a rough one. My body was moving slow and there was nothing I could do about it.
I stopped at a nearby pit toilet for obvious reasons, but lingered to get away from the mosquitoes. This feels like a low point. 😂
Let me complain a little more about those pesky buzzing devils… Of course the one day I would’ve liked to take a little break the mosquitoes wouldn’t let me. This only added to the already very present frustration. I threw myself a few short pity parties, always important to allow these in my opinion. At least my bug bet hid my tears of anger from passing hikers. Shelter Cove couldn’t come fast enough!
The best part of my hike was walking through the snow. It seemed to distract me and give me a little energy. Funny enough, many hikers were taking the alternate to avoid the snow (and a climb), but they also avoided the best views of the day.
Finally! I made it to Shelter Cove and was greeted by familiar faces and a much needed beer. My day immediately got better. David had been there for hours having taken the shorter route, and Bowie beat me too. Technically I lost the bet, but I disqualified myself based on pathetic performance. 😂 David generously bought beers all afternoon/evening and never asked to take me up on the pizza. And that’s how you lose a bet my friends!
To add to the pure delight this day has turned into, a few ladies I hadn’t seen since the desert hiked in, so fun! We all sat around for the rest of the day, into the night trading stories. It was exactly what I needed.
I set my tent up just in time for the sun to go down. A bad start turned into a wonderful day!
Goodnight!
