Day 1- Yessss! It’s finally here!

Day 1: mile 0-16.7

I woke up 30 seconds before my alarm went off and wanted to roll over and go back to sleep for another few hours, but then I realized what today was. Boom, insta energy! I got up, showered and enjoyed one last brush with my electric toothbrush. Oh how I’ll miss the way it makes my teeth sparkle with such little effort on my part.

I think I’ll miss you most… ;-p

After managing to take an extra hour longer than I’d planned (which was no surprise if you know me) my parents and I were on the road around 10 am. The drive flew by as I looked over the water report, sipped some coffee, and called a few family members back who keep talking to me like I’m not going to speak with them the entire time I’m gone. Too funny! It’s always nice to know you’re loved either way.

Just me and my new best friend for the next 5 months …guess maybe I should name it. Suggestions welcome.

As we pulled up to the terminus it felt surreal to be there in person. I’ve seen so many photos of others posing, but here it was, my turn to take that infamous pic! …and I did, a lot of them.

Goodbyes were said, hugs were given, surprisingly no tears were shed, and then it was time for me to take my first steps on to the Pacific Crest Trail! Yesssss!!! Off I went, but not entirely sure how to feel. I was definitely excited, but it also felt like I was just off for a day hike. The day felt normal so far; I woke up in my bed, ate breakfast at my apartment, and got dropped off by my parents… Pretty sure as I sit in my tent it still hasn’t hit me.

Peace out Mexico!

The first day was kind to me. Mostly flat with little elevation gain until my last mile. I opted to end my day with a climb. Worth it! Not only did I earn my dinner, but I was rewarded with an amazing view for my first sunset.

All in all it was a great first day! I couldn’t have asked for better weather, met a few nice people on the way, and I currently have two random dogs sleeping outside my tent. What more can a girl ask for?! I hope they’re still here to say good morning when I wake up! I’ll be sleeping well tonight. Until mañana…

Goodnight!

XOXO Becks

A super extra big thank you to my parents for getting me here today, in more ways than just a ride! Love you two!
