Day 7: mile 101.2-109.5 (Warner Springs)
I woke to a light sprinkle hitting my tent. Even with the rainy, gloomy day, I was still motivated to get up and moving. Today is the day I meet my parents in Warner Springs. I was excited to see them and share my adventures. I packed my things and was off in my rain gear just after 8. I had no idea what I had in store on the journey to get to them.
I decided to wear my sandals today, so I felt like a little kid sloshing around in the mud as I walked in the rain. It seemed like a better idea to have fun with the weather, than focus on the fact I was cold and wet, so I laughed as I slid down parts of the trail with mud between my toes.
Just as the rain stopped I walked into the most gorgeous meadow I’ve even seen. I felt like I was in a dream. The rolling hills, the wildflowers, even the wooden posts with the letters PCT carved in them fit perfectly. These photos do no justice at all. It was truly breathtaking.
I had one more stop before Warner Springs, Eagle Rock. Yet another one of nature’s creations, it’s exactly what it sounds like, a group of rocks that take the shape of a giant eagle. Thankfully another hiker was passing at the same time, so we got to trade off and have fun taking silly photos. It was s blast!
After our photoshoot I hauled it the remaining few miles to meet my parents.
As I walked up to the Community Center they were both there waiting to give me a hug …even after a week without a shower, that’s love right there. We hopped in the car and headed down the street for a picnic. They brought me a feast, and it was amazing! We had fun talking and catching up. Best parents ever! ❤️
We then headed to the resort to have a drink before they left. Shortly after most of the hikers I’d met over the past week strolled in and sat down. My parents enjoyed meeting everyone and it put their minds at ease that I was in fact not alone out there. I’m so terrible at remembering to take photos of everyone (working on that), but I did capture the arm wrestling match. 😂
I headed outside to get my resupply and said goodbye to my parents. This time it was a tearful a tearful goodbye. My Mom cried thinking about not seeing me for months. Avoiding getting emotional myself (I’m definitely one of those people who cries because someone else is crying), I reassured her it wasn’t that long and I’d be in touch all the time. I gave them hugs and thanked them for coming.
I went inside for one more drink before I headed over to the resort for my first hotel stay! Hot showers and a sofa bed, yes! Plus we were able to do laundry. I was living large in Warner Springs my friends!
Goodnight!
XOXO Becks
